This article is intended to be somewhat of an introduction to the medication called Cialis which is the main star of this blogsite. The blogsite is filled with useful (hopefully) articles on different aspects of Cialis, including even some testimonials from men who have decided to use this medication to help them with erectile dysfunction and this article is something like an introductory lesson. It is aimed at people who know nothing or very little about Cialis and who could use a brief overview of this medication that is still not as widely known as Viagra, its main competitor on the market.
Cialis is a PDE5 inhibitor class drug, which means that it is in the same class as Viagra which gave birth to the class and Levitra, the second PDE5 inhibitor to hit the market, just a month or two before Cialis. First of all, it shares the mechanism of action with Viagra. Cialis works by inhibiting the PDE5 enzyme which has been identified as the main cause for erectile dysfunction in men whose ED is physiological and not psychological. This enzyme interferes with the natural process that leads to an erection and with the use of Cialis, this process is enabled to occur properly, allowing for healthy erections to be achieved and maintained during sexual intercourse.
When Cialis came out as the third PDE5 inhibitor to be approved, five years after Viagra and a few months after Levitra, it seemed that it is doomed to be forgotten as the one that didn’t make it in time to become Viagra’s main competitor. However, it turned out that Levitra was going to fill out this role, not exactly forgotten but lagging far behind Viagra and Cialis. The reason for this is that Levitra came out as only a slight improvement over Viagra, an improvement that was not enough to make people switch from its older cousin. Cialis is a whole different story on the other hand.
Namely, Cialis is such a huge improvement over Viagra that it has been slowly and steadily gaining ground in this competition and there are predictions that in the year 2012, it will finally become the most sold ED drug on the market, leaving Viagra behind for the first time. There are few reasons for this. The first reason is that Cialis is somewhat more selective and that because of this it is less likely to cause side effects, especially headaches that became notorious when Viagra is in question. Also, Cialis takes less time to work and it can be taken mere 15 or 20 minutes before 
sex, which is a big improvement over Viagra’s hour.
However, the biggest advantage of Cialis over Viagra and the one that makes it such a huge improvement is that it works for significantly longer period of time. Namely, Viagra stops working after about 4 to 6 hours and Cialis shows effects for as long as 24 or even 36 hours. It is this duration of the effects that has definitely clinched it for Cialis.
Finally, in October 2011, Cialis also got approved for use in cases of enlarged prostate as it has been found to significantly reduce the symptoms of this condition that affects a large percentage of men.
